At my university the students that are majoring in Japanese and that are starting their courses next week, will have gone through both minna no nihongo I+II by July, which would put them at roughly N4, so exactly what you are aiming for.
That is mostly with just following the courses schedule and doing all the assignments and review. I think the course ends mid July so you might have to prelearn the last chapter or so your own, but that shouldn't be much of a problem and even without you'd probably pass n4 just fine.
In comparison the course I attended (which was aimed at people minoring in Japanese) was only paced half as fast. (I think minors used to attend the same courses as majors, but they changed it up a few years ago) So. The people starting next week would only have finished MnN I during classes until July, which is more along the lines of N5. (The course was 2x2h a week btw. Tho there's an 8 week gap in Feb/March) Yes, with self study you could get to N4 anyway. But that would require you to study roughly a textbook ahead of the course, which is achievable but definitely requires more effort and discipline on your own and might just not be for everyone. Oh and you might be a bit bored in classes if you go that route:P though I guess it's still good for review.
